Nosso grito de dor não é um grito de guerra

Lembrando as vítimas do 11/9 e da Guerra Contra o Terrorismo

Hora/data/ local

Nós lastimamos…

*

a morte de mais de 3.000 inocentes dos ataques terroristas de 11 de setembro de 2001;

*

a morte de milhares de pessoas inocentes no subsequente ataque militar no Afeganistão;

*

a injusta detenção de centenas de imigrantes nos EUA;

*

a redução das liberdades civis introduzidas pela Lei Patriota… USA Patriot Act;

*

o desvio de enormes recursos das necessidades humanas para o orçamento militar;

*

o esmagamento da dissidência e as tentativas de galvanizar o apoio público para a retaliação, em vez de buscar soluções pacíficas e fundamentadas na justiça.

Nós celebramos…

*

as pessoas envolvidas no corajoso resgate do 11/9, que simbolizam os valores de generosidade e respeito à vida, que todos compartilhamos;

*

a idéia de que a paz e a justiça são possíveis;

*

a nossa crença de que podemos encontrar meios justos para responder ao terrorismo;

*

os amplos esforços de parar com a expansão da guerra (por ex.: ao Iraque);

*

o trabalho que está sendo feito para lidar com as causas da injustiça e desigualdade, as quais, acreditamos, podem resolver o que nenhuma guerra pode resolver;

*

os esforços contínuos de muitas pessoas no sentido de construir uma sociedade democrática, pacífica e justa.

Nós sabemos que…

*

muitas pessoas têm receios com relação ao unilateralismo dos EUA e as ações militares;

*

na qualidade de cidadãos dos EUA, somos a única força que pode mitigar as ações da maior potência do mundo;

*

a pressão do público pode mudar os resultados da política interna e externa;

*

This flyer was developed by the Jamaica Plain Action Network (with help from ZNET) for distribution at local events being planned to commemorate the first anniversary of 9-11. Please use this material in any way that suits your needs. Add information about your local events and include your own relevant contact information at the bottom. For lay-out, we conceived of it as a landscape-oriented 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper printed on both sides and folded into thirds. The cover panel would be the title. One each of the three panels on the inside would be used for "We mourn…" We celebrate…" and "We know…" The back panel would include "We invite…" and would offer the contact information. Questions?

Our Cry of Grief is Not a Cry for War

Remembering the Victims of 9-11 and the War on Terrorism

Time/date/place for local events

We mourn…

*

the deaths of over 3000 innocent people in the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001;

*

the deaths of thousands more innocent people in the subsequent military action in Afghanistan;

*

the unjust detention of hundreds of immigrants in the U.S.;

*

the curtailment of civil liberties brought about by the USA Patriot Act;

*

the shifting of enormous resources to the military budget and away from human needs;

*

the squashing of dissent and the attempts to galvanize public support for retaliation rather than peaceful, justice-based solutions.

We celebrate…

*

the courageous rescue workers on 9-11 who symbolize the generous, life-affirming values we all share;

*

the idea that peace and justice are possible;

*

our belief that we can find just means to respond to terrorism;

*

the widespread efforts to stop the expansion of the war (e.g. to Iraq);

*

the work being done to address the root causes of injustice and inequality, which we believe can solve what war never solves;

*

the ongoing efforts of many people to construct a democratic, peaceful, and just society.

We know…

*

that many people have misgivings about U.S. unilateralism and military action;

*

that, as U.S. citizens, we are the only force that can mitigate the actions of the world's greatest superpower;

*

that public pressure can change the outcomes of domestic and foreign policy;

*

that now is the time to make our voices heard via local organizations (see below), letters to the editor, and public protest.

We invite you…

*

to join us on 9-11-02 for a first anniversary commemoration of the terrorist attacks on the U.S. and to remember the innocent civilians who lost their lives that day and in the subsequent "war on terrorism"

*

to contribute to [describe your local event here]

*

to take part in the ongoing grassroots peace and justice work in [mention your neighborhood here]
